SNJB College implements Winjit’s IoTSense

The IoT market is estimated to grow at 20.55% CAGR from 2016 to 2024. IoT platforms help in creating and managing applications which can store data, derive analytics and secure data. IoT strongly contributes to cloud computing by aiding in fighting storage space and energy-related problems.

The growing demand for IoT has urged the new generation to learn and implement IoT at an early stage in order to keep up with the current trends in the IT industry. Winjit’s IoTSense is an exemplary product which has gained many awards, accolades and growing popularity. In order to spread awareness encourage usage of this product, Winjit had conducted an IoTSense seminar at Winjit, Nashik which was attended by the faculty of top and reputed colleges from the vicinity. The speakers of the seminar were Makrand Savarkar – Head of Enterprise Solutions, Vijayta Bhatt – Project Lead Blockchain Solutions, Dinesh Ghadge – Project Manager ET and Shubham Jadhav – Senior Software Developer (IoT). The workshop intended to enlighten the attendees regarding IoTSense and to encourage them to implement it and train their students regarding the same.

Encouraged from this seminar, the faculty at the SNJB College, Chandwad organized two workshops for their students to train them on IoTSense. Three Winjitians, Saket Nalegaonkar – IoT Engineer, Dinesh Ghadge and Shubham Jadhav were the speakers of the workshops. The students were trained with the live IoTSense demo and its complete working explained by our experts.

Understanding the demand of IoT, the SNJB College has not only successfully conducted IoTSense training for their students, but the students and the faculties there have also developed some noteworthy projects providing a solution to some critical problems faced by the society.

As a token of appreciation, we at Winjit decided to publish an article depicting the projects developed by the students.

Following are some of the projects conceptualized and developed by the students and faculty at the SNJB College, Chandwad:

Credit-based Garbage system With IoTSense that will be useful to the Municipality, Gram Panchayat and other governing bodies.

The system includes a smart card to deposit garbage into the dustbin and the people will get points as they deposit garbage. These points can be redeemed to get concessions or discounts in the municipality bills. All the data will be stored to IoTSense and will be accessible to the Mayor. The Mayor will view area wise maximum and minimum usage of the system. Based on the IoTSense data, awards will be given to area representative for encouraging cleanliness in the area. The concession or discount to be given to a user will be tracked by IoTSense by sending timely alerts per month. Also, after the dustbin is full, the responsible officer will be notified.

IoT based Solar cleaning and analytics with IoT Sense

The college has solar panels installed. The energy generated by these panels goes to the MSEB and in turn, the MSEB gives concession to the college in their bills. IoTSense is connected to the solar panels to record the energy generated as a whole and by individual panels. The energy generation before and after cleaning is done will also be recorded. The damaged panels will be detected by tracking the energy generated by the panels. The amount of energy consumed by the college and the amount of energy sent to MSEB will be monitored through IoTSense. The workers employed for cleaning will also be monitored and tracked through IoTSense and if the workers are not working, alerts will be triggered and sent to the admin.

Smart washroom with IoTSense

Currently, the washrooms in the college are cleaned only as per schedule. The Smart washroom system detects unclean washrooms with the help of MQ sensors installed. The sensor data is sent to IoTSense and accordingly, the alerts are generated to the concerned personnel. This is useful to clean washrooms only when necessary and thereby save up on resources.

Water Impurity Detection and Analytics with IoTSense

The college has several water tanks installed for water supply. There are Ph. sensors and turbidity sensors installed to determine the freshness and cleanliness of the water in the tanks. The data from these sensors is sent to IoTSense. There are threshold values defined that indicated the purity of water. The water in the tank is continuously monitored and as soon as the threshold values are surpassed, IoTSense triggers alert to the admin so that appropriate action can be taken in time.

Smart Latch with IoT sense

The college has several such areas which have permission-based access. However, the entry-exit is monitored manually and hence, prone to unauthorized access. The Smart Latch system aims at solving this problem by implementing biometric entry to the important areas. For all the important areas, every entry and exit will be recorded by the IoTSense. The details of all the entries and exits will be monitored and the data will be sent to the admin. Various analytics and reports will be generated from this data and will be displayed to the desired users.

Smart Fan with IoT sense

Every room of the college has fans installed which can be turned on/off and regulated manually. The Smart Fan system introduces an IR remote to control the fan. The data regarding each fan as –

  • At what speed the fan was working and for how much time
  • How much energy was consumed

This data was compared against threshold values and as soon as the threshold values were surpassed, there were alerts sent to that particular department to check the ventilation of the room. If the ventilation is okay, the system alerts the admin for scheduling health checkup of the people sitting in the room.

Smart Water Coolers with IoTSense

The water coolers in the college have a fixed cooling level set. However, the users may increase decrease the cooling level. To address this problem, the Smart Water Coolers system is being developed. The system has PIDs installed on the coolers and these PIDs are capable of recording the cooling level as well as setting the cooling value to a particular level. The PIDs are connected to the IoTSense and the values are monitored through IoTSense. A centralized control lies with the HOD of every department. The HOD of each department will be able to control the coolers in that particular department. The HOD can monitor the cooling level and adjust it if required.

Winjit congratulates the students and faculties of the SNJB College, Chandwad for taking up training on and implementing IoTSense. We look forward to more such collaborations.
